On November 18, 2020, the "Key Technologies for Smart Medical Support at the Winter Olympics" project, led by Beijing Tiantan Hospital affiliated with Capital Medical University, was launched in Beijing. The project is one of the key special projects of the "Technology Winter Olympics" approved by the Ministry of Science and Technology under the national key research and development plan. Leaders from the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, the China 21st Century Agenda Management Center, the Beijing Municipal Science and Technology Commission, and other supervisory units, along with several guiding experts from the project's expert committee, leaders of each sub-project, and representatives from participating units, totaling more than 50 people, attended the meeting.

During the meeting, Zhou Jianxin, the deputy dean of Beijing Tiantan Hospital affiliated with Capital Medical University and the project leader, delivered a welcome speech and presented appointment letters to the project experts. Dean Zhou stated that as the leading unit of the project, they will actively carry out project organization, management, and supervision, providing high-quality support to ensure the smooth implementation of the project plan and guarantee the successful completion of the project as scheduled. Qi Shiming, Director of the Sports Services Department of the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, Zhang Shujun, Director of the China 21st Century Agenda Management Center, and Deputy Researcher Liu Rongxia made speeches, respectively introducing the background of the implementation plan for the national key research and development plan "Technology Winter Olympics" and the background of the establishment of the smart medical support key technology project. They also provided constructive optimization suggestions for the implementation and management of the project.

Project Research Content
The project includes research on the integrated medical support needs for the urban area of Beijing, Yanqing, and Zhangjiakou competition zones of the Winter Olympics, studying technologies for sharing medical resources within the region; researching an integrated diagnostic and treatment information platform covering different regions and levels of medical institutions; studying key technologies for aviation medical emergency support in snow sports and a quality control and training system for first aid volunteers in cardiopulmonary resuscitation; researching an auxiliary diagnostic and treatment system for sports injuries (including complex injuries to multiple areas such as the brain, maxillofacial, bones, internal organs, and eyes) based on deep learning technology; and researching a remote surgical operation system for intelligent medical robots, mechanical arms, and other intelligent medical devices covering the three competition zones of the Winter Olympics. The aforementioned outcomes will be applied in the medical support of the Winter Olympics test events and will be actually used during the 2022 Winter Olympics.
